NES FAQ completion project.
From: MegamanX | Posted: 5/31/2004 5:11:03 PM | Message Detail
However, if anyone needs any help/info/etc. I would be more than willing to lend my $0.02.

My only gripe with trying to get FAQs made for every US released NES game is with the quality. I know none of us get paid for NES guides, but I just wouldn't want to see a game that truly needed a guide get the half-a$$ treatment just so it gets its own guide.

i can help, we should start a sign up in another post for each letter and any one can also help, for example one person can start writing FAQs for the top of the list, another can start at the bottom and meet in the middle and finish that letter.

I'll try to find my Square no Tom Sawyer FAQ. It is an atrocious game (one of my all-time worst RPG's EVAR!!11), but I did finish about half of the translation guide and walkthrough for it. Maybe I can force myself to play the other half...

I'll look into it.

Yeah, I'm having some troubles with the FAQ. I'm very confused about it, since the ROM I'm using has messed up graphics, so the password icons and lottery don't show up right. The game itself works great, but the others...not so much. If you could, could you help me get some passwords for the first 2 levels, or even all the passwords, if possible? It'd be much appreciated.

-Give up no hits or baserunners via walk or HBP.
-Make no errors.

There is a "newly released" NES game that cries out for a FAQ/Walkthrough. I wanted to write one for the game but will not have the time, so it will be a prime game to write one for. Clue: It is an RPG, yet it isn't.

I ran into a hang-up with Spelunker II, so until I get that resolved I'm going to work on tackling another one: Twinbee 3. Yeah, they're all Japanese games, but running down the list, the FAQless Famicom games always catch my eye before the NES ones. I guess it's because there are a lot more hidden gems to be found in that regard.

Also, I have my eye tentatively on Takahashi Meijin no Bougte-Honey(sic) but will have to see 1) whether or not it's doable without knowing Japanese and 2) how quickly I can knock Twinbee 3 out. I haven't checked the former out yet, but I can say with certainty that the latter is coming along nicely. I've only started playing the game tonight, and I've already gotten to the final stage legitimately on easy(the default difficulty) Tommorow I'll go ahead, beat easy and then start on hard. Although I never quite know what to say in the walkthrough part on most shooters, as it's hard to convey that which is primarily achieved through practice in a manner that isn't too trivial(i.e "go forward, attack bad guys, go forward, etc") But I'll try to cook up something.

If it is anything like Twinbee Saph, you could try something along the lines of my Twinbee FAQ.

Can I assume Sesame Street ABC/123 is just a cart with both games on it? I can't find the ROM anywhere, and if that's all it is, then I will just slap together both of my Sesame Street guides for that.

Then that would be done. Can anyone confirm what exactly that game consists of?

Saph, regarding Takahashi Meijin no Bougte-Honey (sic)...it is a really fun game, but I got up to one of the later levels and was simply stumped. Have you played through the game yet? I tried playing this game about 4 years ago, but cannot remember exactly where the trouble spot was. There are some "Arkanoid"-type stages in this one as well.

Nah, all I know about it is that it's a spin-off of the Adventure Island series focused around the fairy that made Master Higgins invincible.

I really hope that I don't get stuck in it like I did in Spelunker 2 though. Because I know very few people in the English-speaking world will have played it :)

Would an FAQ (as in, not FAQ/Walkthrough) that merits a full circle (a la Galaga for the arcade) count? Because I can't do a walkthrough for the game I'm doing now: Galactic Crusader.

I went to submit an update to my NES Game Finishes FAQ .txt file and I got the following message:

File successfully uploaded as NESGameEndings(2).txt, 162987 bytes.
File checked: File is over margin, 1323 characters wide

I then transferred it to a .doc file and got the following message when submitting it:

Word processor file, manual conversion required

I did change over to a new computer since the last time I submitted a guide, so this must have something to do with it.

If anyone can help me out, I have a feeling I will have the same problem when I submit my Ultimate Stuntman FAQ.

That means that the guide has at least one line that has over 1000 characters on it. Open the guide in Notepad, and turn Word Wrap off, then copy this line into it.

1234567891123456789212345678931234567894123456789512345678961234567897123456789

Set the edge of the window so that that line just fits exactly. Any lines that go beyond the window are too long.

To fix this, either manually cut each line into the right length, or go to one of these programs. The programs will do that for you automatically, but will mess up anything that doesn't cut well.

http://losmonos.netfirms.com/eighty.html

http://faqs.ign.com/format_faq.html

Or CJayC may fix the guide himself, and post it that way. However, I personally would make sure to fix the problem yourself so that CJayC doesn't need to deal with it. Also, if you fix the guide, you should pull the old one out of the queue because a new one is just going to go up anyway.
