NES FAQ completion project.
From: hotkiller
| Posted: 7/7/2004 9:26:06 PM | Message Detail
Hi, I'd be glad to help you completing your project, I think it's a great idea ! I don't know if you really want my help since you don't know if I'm a good FAQ writer or not because I don't have a single FAQ on the site yet, but I can tell you I'm really interested in the project. I really like old school games (like those on the NES) and I enjoy writing about things I like, and gaming is part of that...
I'm currently writing two FAQs for Xbox games (Counter-Strike and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (it's a walkthrough where I kill and KO as less enemies as possible to be as stealthy as possible (like The_message's FAQ for the first Splinter Cell, which was a great FAQ in my opinion)). The reason why I don't have those FAQs posted is that my computer wasn't working for a couple of weeks, so I wrote my FAQs on paper, but as soon as I finish typing them up on the computer, I'm going to post them on gamefaqs...
Anyway, the point is that I want to know if you want my help despite the fact that you don't know my skills as a FAQ writer, because I'd be glad to be of some help. If you are willing to give me a chance, just give me a game title that needs to be covered along with it's genre and I'll tell you if it's fine by me (it should be, unless it's a fighting game like Mortal Kombat, which is the only genre that I hate) or, if you prefer, I could find some games on my own and keep you informed here, but I'd rather have a game title given to me, because I know that if I choose the game myself, I'll have trouble finding "the good one" as it'll be difficult for me to choose between like 50 games I like, I always tend to be willing to to many things at a time and I never know what to do first. Also, I think it would be better if you gave me a game title because I would know what games need to be covered first...
Anyway, like you probably noticed, I haven't read the whole topic because I wanted to post my message before going to bed, but I'll read every single post in the topic tomorrow to see exactly how it works. If you decide to give me a chance, just reply and tell me, I'll be more than happy to help you.
Sorry for the long post, and good night !

I didn't bother reading all the pages in this thread, but I would definitely contribute. Is anyone already planning to do a Moai-kun FAQ? Just thought I'd do that one since it's not that hard and I happen to have it.

That link used to have all the NES games that needed a FAQ, but it's been down for at least 2 days. Look through the topic to check if your games have been taken or not.
And don't worry about being allowed to write a FAQ. Just pick a game and go for it.

That's cool... I just chose a game too, it looks interesting and I found an English translation for it... The game's title is Ganbare Goemon Gaiden: Kieta Ougon Kiseru, I'm going to start working now, just tell me if someone has already chosen this game to write a FAQ for it, as I don't want to take someone else's work.

Good like with Kid Dracula, I played through a translated version of a it a while back and thought of writing for it.
But the one stage that had you jumping up platforms in shaft with enemies and other hazards bugging you made me decide against it.
At least the first boss is a couple of KKK members (???).

Good luck with Drac's Night Out. I have gotten through the first tower scene, then the first overhead scene. When it goes back into the tower I am clueless. Most people think the game ends after the first overhead scene, but from what I hear there are several more sets of scenes to play through and there actually is an ending.

I think the I'm Kid Dracula game is different from the Drac's Night Out game. Whatever. I'm trying to do the one with the KKK ghosts. I think it's put on Gamefaqs as Boku-Dracula Kun.

There's a Famicom game called Chesterfield ("Chester Field" on gamefaqs) that is also screaming out for a FAQ. It is in Japanese, but there is an English patch for the game.
Each Stage consists of a side scrolling stage, where your character resembles Link from Adventure of Link and he goes hunting for weapons and info, then a labyrinth stage, where he must hunt down a boss for that stage's item. I've only gotten to the Stage 2 labyrinth...getting there was fairly difficult, as there are lots of hidden blocks to pass through on your way there, but the labyrinth itself really needs to be mapped.
Just thought I'd throw this one out there as a cool game that would really need a walkthrough.

Wow... Atlantis no Nazo actually has like 100 zones. I really doubt I'll have the time to write a kick-ass FAQ for it, so never mind on that one.
For those interested, Atlantis no Nazo is great for any author who wants to get mad respect from the NES community.

Getting by that last area is almost impossible.
Nobody I know has found a distinct ending to the game either. Something happens in the last where is could be considered beating the game, but then you find out it isn't the end. There is a great messageboard where this game is discussed quite frequently, but I posted it before and got a ban threat because the word "ROM" was mentioned once or twice on the board.
If you go to google and type in "Sardius experience" you will most likely find the board.

Yeah winnie that's what I'm doing for NES right now, checking all games that supposedly have FAQs to see if they're actually complete, or merely skeleton/partial/in-depth/maps/etc.
I know this is late in responding but, save some maps for me now :-P
Seriously, I am making 4 more maps for Rygar (which is how many I figured there would be), since I already did the overworld maps.
I also plan on doing up some maps for Faxanadu for the NES. After that, MAYBE get started on some Silent Hill 4 maps (I know, not an NES game), after that, maybe go back to NES maps. ^_^
---
Just say I'm right or prove me wrong which is it?

Hey.
I've decided to not do Rainbow Islands after all (for now at least), and I have tried to remove the 'in progress' tag from the list. However when updating the status of that guide, there isn't anything to remove the tag (all it says is in progress, submitted, posted etc). Maybe you could add something so users can remove the tags if they decide they don't want to work on the FAQ after all?

Torro, nice work on King Neptune. That was one of the guides that was on my list of guides to do...about 3 years ago. Real life got in the way, but I'm glad you did the guide if only because of the maze maps.
A somewhat similar game for the NES is Secret Scout if you are looking for another NES game to write for. It is also a Color Dreams game.

Crackout is fun. Brian, have you ever checked out Thunder and Lightning? It's another Arkanoid clone, yet I NEVER hear anything about it.

SubSane, I beat Secret Scout but I remember there was one door that was high up on the screen on a ledge I never figured out how to get to. I had to make my own NESten cheat to make myself jump higher and I used it to get to that door, but I never figured out how to do it legit. Are you still planning on doing Secret Scout?

I still haven't planned anything, since there's two other guides to get out of the way. If you're thinking of writing something for it then by all means go for it.

"That's fine. I don't want some sophisticated old broad."
