Since this particular game is only legally available by purchase, it's no different from the many unlicensed NES games that are in the database. Rob |

From Allen: Notes: Sold as a cart, not public domain homebrew That in mind, I can think of a large handful of games that could be added to the NES database. --- http://backloggery.com/jellysoup "Work is the best antidote to sorrow." - Sherlock Holmes |

Hey, my internet company, RetroCrap, is selling Super Mario Bros. 5 which is a hack of the first game with Mario Galaxy storyline pictures thrown in. So you can buy it for 5 bucks and I'll send you the cart and then we can add it the database as well????!!!?!!?! :/ :/ |

^^^ If Allen accepts it, yeah. This is very much a situation where the 'deal with it dog' pic would be useful. --- http://backloggery.com/jellysoup "Work is the best antidote to sorrow." - Sherlock Holmes |

"Eh, the game is not that hard to warrant cheats. ;)" It's not about being hard, it's about convenience :) There's a no random battles code that I'm sure you'll want to use. Sorry to be a pain, but could you please take my name off the Spy V Spy (nankoku shirei) claim. Got a lot going on right now and basically I am lacking any motivation to write for it. Tried playing the game a few times recently and quit playing within a minute or so, which is not a good sign for writing a guide on a game. As it has been over a year since I claimed it (I actually forgot I had claimed it for a lot of that time), might be better if someone else has a crack at it. Apologies again. This should be an easy guide for someone to take care of though - I feel it is more likely to be completed this way. Let me know if you need any help for the game, whoever writes for it - happy to help. I only had about 3K written for it, so a co-author guide is not really worth it. Good to see that this project is progressing anyway. --- ~ Ringworm ~ |

I need some more advice about images for Dream Master. Had to abandon screenshot maps as it was getting far too complicated... Anyway, I started off making a png map that was too big, and saved it to a gif, but with one earlier draft it looks fine, but after adding some more bits to the map, it loses the white lines. I kind of want them there as it makes it easier to navigate the hidden areas. Why does this happen and how can I prevent the loss of the white lines? Here's the two images: More detailed map: loses all the lines http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/348/57547746.gif Earlier draft: is fine http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/2440/72021999.gif --- I don't remember when I put a monkey on this palmtree... The green colour is too light and easily blends with the white. What is wrong with using the grey you used before? Or maybe change the lines from white to black. --- Sign for System Requirements/Recommendations for games: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=7&topic=53203289 |
threetimes | Posted 8/22/2010 6:32:49 PM | message detail |
It was already a png before saving it as a gif. Yeah, black works, and I could go back to that though I prefer white. I wanted to know why it does that: what's the logic behind it so I can plan for it in future. Or just try darkening the green. --- I don't remember when I put a monkey on this palmtree... (Dream Master) |
Games | Posted 8/22/2010 8:17:31 PM | message detail |
It happens because a human's eyesight is not that good. It only gets part of the picture and fills in the rest (in a sense, not too sure exactly what happens, but our eye-sight does not show colours how they should be), which is how you can create some eye-sight tricks. Because of this, colours as light as that green will be hard to distinguish when mixed with white lines. Darkening the green may be another solution. --- Sign for System Requirements/Recommendations for games: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=7&topic=53203289 |

Rey, have you played the Ultraman Club games at all? The encounter rate seems excessively high, and you don't seem to build experience by defeating regular monsters, so is there a code available to reduce/stop the encounter rate? :P I've been trying to play Ultraman Club 3 lately, and while I'm still trying to figure out the game's mechanics and other values on the status screen, it's not that bad. Just WAY too many enemy encounters with a slow interface, meh... --- Devin Morgan | CRP #3579 NES FAQ Completion Project: http://faqs.retronintendo.com |

threetimes: The loss of white is simple. The more you compress a GIF, the more colors it looses. Although, in this case, there are no more than 256 colors, so there shouldn't be any loss of colors. At all. You are probably using a crappy image converter then. Also, to tell you the truth, it looks 100 times better without the white lines :) Devin: Sorry, I tried finding cheats for UC3 and nothing. It's prob one of those games with hidden values and things like that. I tried for over 30 minutes to find a no encounter code (those aren't always easy to find anyways though). I then tried to find an infinite energy code (which are easier to find) and nothing. I kind of saw it coming when I saw that your character starts with 1800 HP! Which means that there are either several addresses, or just one address in which the value 1 means 200 ingame or something. And maybe if the search results were narrowed to 20 or so addresses I would have found it, but the results I got were well over the 80's. I'm sure one of those could be the code, but I would have to try them one by one :( |

Thanks ReyVGM, and oh really? :O I use Seashore on a mac: it's a free application, and probably fairly basic, as is my knowledge of how to use it. I mostly muddle along by trial and error, seeing what works but not knowing why it might or might not. Do you know of a better (free) application for macs: that might solve this particular problem? Anyway the white has gone for good on this set of pics. :D --- I don't remember when I put a monkey on this palmtree... (Dream Master) |
ReyVGM | Posted 8/25/2010 8:47:15 AM | message detail |
If it's free, then yeah, the compression probably sucks. I can't help you on what to use on a mac. I just use windows paint to make maps and stuff like that and then I can save it on any format I like. Surely a mac has a proprietary image editor like windows paint that allows you to save a file in any format you like? |
Devin Morgan (Moderator) | Posted 8/25/2010 9:21:21 AM | message detail |
I use Photoscape for Windows, it's a neat program for image editing. No actual creation or anything, but fine-tuning stuff like cropping, borders, saving in other formats, etc. You should check it out. Rey - That's too bad. At least Ultraman Club 3 is easy, and double speed always helps if you know what I mean. :) I started the FAQ already, give me a week or so to finish. :P --- Devin Morgan | CRP #3579 NES FAQ Completion Project: http://faqs.retronintendo.com |
threetimes | Posted 8/26/2010 1:12:17 PM | message detail |
Yeah, that's only for windows. And after some checking around it seems that Seashore is about the best free app for macs, so I guess I'll just carry on with that and try and keep things simple. Thanks anyway guys. --- I don't remember when I put a monkey on this palmtree... (Dream Master) |

Devin Morgan (Moderator) | Posted 8/27/2010 10:41:22 AM | message detail |
^Maps are just as essential for some of these games. ;) We also want to keep it so that a different person makes the topic each time, as you can see on the project homepage. It doesn't necessarily have to do with how much work is being contributed, as much as it is about supporting the project itself. It's just sort of a tradition we've kept up for the last 6+ years, so why not continue it? --- Devin Morgan | CRP #3579 NES FAQ Completion Project: http://faqs.retronintendo.com |
