NES FAQ Completion Project, Part 3

Keep in mind that in the later stages you have to go through walls. You have to knock out certain parts of the wall to get into them and in other spots there are gaps in the floor you fall through...very confusing but ultimately doable with a modicum of patience.

Ah, I figured I'd have to so I was going to do it regardless.
Anyways, were Shatterhand and Tokkyuu Shirei Soul Brain just never crosslinked? Because they should be.

Okay, I'm back. No other games to distract, work has lightened up, and I'll be do my best to remain indoors. :)
Drac's Night Out will begin tomorrow after the passing of my previous hard drive and two weeks' work down the drain. I did manage to beat the game before that happened and it's not as tough as it seems.

SubSane, what was the ending like? How many levels were there in total? I made it through one overhead level and then got stuck in the 2nd castle level. I'm dying to know how many sets of levels there are.

I submitted a Famicom Wars FAQ.
It does not include a walkthrough and at the moment I do not plan including one.

There are a total of five castle levels, and after each castle level there is a village level that seems to remain the same each time. The castles connect to each other but there is rarely a reason to move from one to the other, and each subsequent castle has more floors than the last. The girl in the village is always found in the south-east quarter of the map which requires a special key to access. The ending (which is shown after each village level) is just an image of Drac, his stylin' Reebok Pumps, and Mina happily walking along.

Thanks for the info. What happens after you get that 5th same ending sequence? Does the screen black out or does it go back to the title?
When do you think the FAQ will be done? :)

I believe the game just resets to the opening sequence after the fifth ending, though I'm not 100% sure on that. The FAQ'll be done in a few weeks, coincidentally just in time for all the Halloween hoopla. My favorite time of year. :)

Alright, the big thing that's eluding me in Chester field right now is a password.
Now, I pretty much TALK/YES/NO/TAKE with everyone I come across - including sword shops hidden in walls - but I've yet to receive a password... they don't even give you one when you die, just GAME OVER and can continue by choosing start game again.
Because I can't read the game, I suppose I could be just missing them.
Other than that, two labyrinths mapped and I'll start stage 3 tomorrow.

Adam, I've come across a patch but I figured it would be most accurate to play through the raw game. If it translates the passwords then it's not good to me anyways.

Heh, I guess owning the actual translated repro-cart is enough to get you modded around here.
Let me rephrase my karma-reducing statement from earlier:
If you want to borrow the translated cart, send me an email.
I don't recall using the "R" word in that last post. The mods might want to do a little more investigating around here before throwing their weight around, especially with posters who have been around since gamefaqs inception and already know the rules about trolling.
Just a thought.

Ah, Adam I don't trust the mail sorting and handling here at the university to do something like that in confidence, but thanks for the offer.
Are the passwords in the the translation unaltered? If so I may play through it quickly to get them. As it stands, the passwords will be submitted as a separate image faq if at all because of display issues.

The unfortunate thing about midterms is - I feel so elated after they're done but this usually has to be applied to the next exam rather than writing.

Here's a very quick sketch to show my progress on Chester Field:
http://photobucket.com/albums/a369/CreamRabbit/?action=view¤t=cfield.jpg
Actually, to be honest I've really gotten into the game and am enjoying the fact that it's so easy to lose yourself in the labyrinths if you aren't careful.
Even the overworld for Stage 6, I spent a long time looking for the labyrinth, and now that I've found it I'm going to start solving it.
It's so rare to find a game that you can get lost in nowadays, that this is a real treat.

Gemerl, I'm so glad I decided NOT to write a FAQ for Chesterfield. Your guide is astounding!! I cannot wait to play through that final stage armed with the knowledge on how to get past the Princess in Stage 8.
Guides like this, for games that really need them, are what make the NES FAQ Completion Project so worthwhile.

Ah thanks.
A similar method is used in Stage 7. But since you need something from stage 8 in that fight, you may wind up in that fight before getting the item. I guess the bosses you don't kill are just under control, and killing them is like failing your quest. I hope your results are in the positive, the times I fought her that worked..
I'm probably going to get a start on mapping out Conflict this week. But I need to see if that's a practical approach first.

I'd like a couple opinions about something here. On the project's website, I have on the list "Babel no Tou" and "Tower of Babel". Both are the same game, but it was only released in Japan. I think it's sort of unnecessary to keep a single game listed twice, so what should I do? This isn't the only example either; there are a few more games I found that are like this. Thanks for any input.

Good question. Babel no Tou is the correct name for the Famicom game, with Tower of Babel being the translated-into-English name.
I do agree with getting rid of one of them. Which one? I'd probably keep Babel no Tou since that is the actual name...still not sure here though. :)
Devin, if you are going to clean up the NES/Famicom section, I'd love to help in any way. I've noticed a lot of double/incorrect listings myself while browsing over the years.

Densetsu no Kishi Elrond is now linked to Wizards & Warriors and can be taken of the list.
Wasn't even on the list to begin with.
So, in regard to my previous posting about duplicate games (see my example), what should be done?

Looking at the list of FAQs done for this project and realizing I have not done a single one since the project started, I am going to make a concerted effort to get something done within the next week.
Anyone got anything going currently?

Nope, not NES anyways, I've really got to start Conflict though. I'm just - burnt out on military faqs. I will probably work on it over December, and submit it in January or such. I'm finished my term Dec 15, so I don't have much time to myself until then.
