NES FAQ Completion Project, Part 3
From: ASchultz | Posted: 11/17/2005 3:30:34 PM | Message Detail
Hi Brian. Yes, I'm still getting back to speed on...THAT guide I've put off. But I got distracted by Might and Magic, which should become an NES guide as soon as administrative details get sorted out(I expanded my Apple guide.)

I however had procrastinated MM 5 years and this project only 5 months.

Ah, damn, ASchultz you beat me to Might and Magic. Enjoy your bounty reward.

Anyway, I just finished a guide for Stadium Events, which is currently an incomplete game. Add it to the list when it's submitted.

stadium events is really just the same game as world class track meet; the title screen is the only thing that's different between the two games.

Yeah, but it is still an incomplete game and therefore needs a guide.

On this one I would have to disagree, as it was released as two completely different titles. Yhis is not like the Japanes/North American versions or whatever, but two completely different entities.

Hey NMorgan--thanks for being a good sport. I'd suffered through the game on the Apple, where they give you 20 experience points for hacking up 6 goblins, and leather sacks in Sorpigal often have zero gold to sort up around party members!

But I've got the hang of the game enough that I found a good place to build up your party quickly and I should be sending in a few maps for it on top of that, maybe in a zipped bundle, sort of like your maps for Super Mario Bros which kept me entertained when I took a break--and there's more left for later..

Speaking of old Apple games that tortured me, Championship Lode Runner has started to interest me. Must...finish...started...projects.

Brian, Xybots, where'd you get that? ;)

ASchultz, I beat the NES Might & Magic a year or so ago and really enjoyed it. It seemed very polished as far as NES games go. Good luck with your guide.

Oh yeah, I just finished and submitted my first new FAQ/Walkthrough in well over a year. I guess I reached my quota of 1 for 2005.

It was kind of a fluff FAQ for me, as I usually would write FAQs for (1) games I thought really needed them or (2) games that probably only 1 or 2 people probably have ever played. This game I wrote for falls into neither category, though I guess not too many people have played it.

I just wanted to get an easy one out of the way and have actually wanted to blow out a FAQ for the game ever since I played it about 8 years ago. Please add it in to the NES FAQ Completion Project as soon as it goes through, hopefully tonight.

Also, I got my mitts on some really odd NES stuff, what I would definitely consider for my category of games that only 1 or 2 people have ever played. If the FAQing bug has indeed gotten me again, I will probably end up grinding out a few more in the not-so-distant future...I hope.

Alright, it was just measly ol' Spartan X 2 (Kung Fu 2) for the Famicom. I went to submit it as Spartan X 2 and could only put it through as Kung Fu 2 (which doesn't exist, as it was never released in the USA).

I put a ton of filler in it just to boost my KB totals. Just kidding. I think it only clocked in around 30KB, but there really isn't any more pertinent info I could add to it. Now that I think of it I never put in a mention of the NES FAQ Completion Project...that was the only reason I did this guide. Looks like there will be a v1.1 a lot sooner than expected.

I'll do a guide for Tetris 2 + Bombliss (and plain old Tetris 2 while I'm at it).

Do Ijust say so here, or do I need to say something on the site with the master list so people don't double up on the game?

It's OK to say so here. People generally don't trip over others' work unless someone claimed something and hasn't done anything for a year.

"Translated" my Championship Lode Runner guide from Apple to NES. Proofread it a lot in the process. Pleased with it.

Thanks Adam...nice to have your FAQ to see how many levels there actually are. I noticed you could jump to 101 and wondered if that meant there were 105 levels. Hope your guide gets posted soon. I didn't know Kung Fu had any sort of sequel.

Awesome that you have the new webspace for the site, Devin. I haven't heard of retronintendo but I'll be checking it out now. And thanks for adding my new stuff so quickly. BTW, I think we can tick off Championship Lode Runner and Might and Magic as well. They didn't appear as NES guides in the "what's new" list because I just added NES specific observations to my original Apple guide. But it's there. Guess I also have Crystal Mines to touch up--I just put it to the side once I got through the 1st 50 as the next 50 are just mirror images, except for power-ups.

Been away for a long time, so i just now noticed the note about Sky Kid about halfway through this topic. I played a bit more, and found that somehow I missed the latter stages completely. There's even a level with multiple UFOs that look completely different. Maybe the levels repeat if you die or something? I don't know why I didn't see them the first time I played, but I'm going to have to add a lot to my FAQ.

And by the way, I'm never going to get around to Gun-Nac, so you can take my name off the list. The one I began to write was mostly fluff anyway...

Hey adam, you see what got posted today? XYBOTS!

About damned time ;)

Nice work. Having you and Schultz work on a guide together is like having LaDainian and Shaun Alexander in the same backfield. Xybots didn't stand a chance.

I'm thinking about FAQing some Sachen games, the only trouble is that none of them appear as titles on gamefaqs. I submitted game data for Q Boy a few days ago but am not sure if it will go through. If it does I plan on submitting game data for the rest of the Sachen titles. The only problem is that some of the titles, like Challenge of the Dragon, have the same name as some already released NES games, yet are completely different. Anything I need to know on getting these through, like if there is anything special I can put in the "notes" section of the submission?

Brian, I didn't even notice Olympic IQ was on there. I'll go through the list of Sachen titles this week and add them in, if they aren't already listed.

Gemerl, believe it or not, the Sachen Challenge of the Dragon is actually worse, IMO. There is one boss where you can't even jump over to the platform he is standing on without him knocking you off (kind of like that wretched boss in Muppet Adventure).
I noticed that the Challenge of the Dragon NES listing here on gamefaqs has Sachen and Color Dreams listed as game publishers. Is it alright to keep it this way or should it be divided up into two seperate Challenge of the Dragons, seeing how they are two completely different games?
