NES FAQ Completion Project, Part 3
From: the_wizard_666 | Posted: 1/29/2006 6:20:12 AM | Message Detail
Well, since I have the game but haven't gotten around to playing it, I'll try Big Nose Freaks Out. No guarantees, as I have no background experience, but I'll give it a go...anyone happen to have the manual for it though? I find it easier to get into a game when I know what's going on...

I found a copy of Joust. I'll submit the guide tonight.

i just updated super sprint, dragons of flame, and atlantis no nazo, and i completed recca (finally). i won't be able to submit them to gamefaqs until later this week.

i might do tetsuwan atom later adaml, after i finish a few other games.

pseudo, that would be awesome if you could give Tetsuwan Atom a try. I suggest playing through it first though, as that one level (I think it was Level 3) with the bells that you apparently have to ring in a certain order was my undoing. If you know some Japanese you may have a better chance figuring out what the hell to do in that situation, as Japanese text comes out of the bells when you hit them.
It's definitely a game that requires a FAQ, as even figuring out how to fly is a major kick in the balls.

i played through the game a little but i stopped on the second stage. flying wasn't so hard to figure out but i found a glitch concerning it. right after you fly over that wall in the first stage, go close to the ground and drop out of flying mode.

you should just fall through the ground and end up in that underground room. i don't know if you can do that in any other stage but i thought it was neat. btw, is it possible to get past those doors in the underground room? i've tried and haven't been able to, yet.

anyway, i'll try to finish the game and write a walkthrough for it. those koei are pretty imposing at first with all the options and other stuff that you can do, but they are fun once you get into them.

Agreed. They have a steep learning curve, but Koei's games are addictive once you get the hang of them. Going on two solid years of RotTK2 here...

DJ - KQV is the same as the PC version. If you get stuck, any tips for that version will help you out on the NES version. You probably knew that already, but just in case. Oh, and don't forget to score the icicle in the mountains (I think it was in the ice queen's cave, but it may have been the Yeti's). You need it to finish the game, but if you don't have it, you can't go back to get it. I personally missed it, so I have yet to finish the game.

Still gotta pick something...not much left that I own...although my W:KoD item list is coming along...too bad the game's been claimed, or I'd do that...

Oh, and King of the Ring can be removed from the list. It's not on the DB anymore...it got merged with WWF King of the Ring.

I removed the following from the incomplete games list (possibly more to come):

Trolls (same as Trolls in Treasure Island)
Rocky & Bullwinkle (same as Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle and Friends

I also submitted data removal reports in regard to both entries. More to come possibly. If you guys come across games that don't exist, let me know so I can remove those as well. Thanks!

I've decided on a game. I'm going to tackle Wizardry III. You can jot my name down on the list. Once I get some form of FAQ started, I'll put up a placeholder, but I want to make it at least a dungeon level before that happens. Big project, but whatever...I'm up for it. Besides, I love taking notes. And at least I know it's a game I'll play through :)

And to TheSpelunker - Any help you need for Wizardry II, I'll be more than happy to provide. Just ask...I've pretty well slaughtered that game numerous times, and the only reason I don't cover it is because you called it already. But still, I'm more than willing to help man.

I miss one day of checking this topic and there is a slew of action here.

Also, I need to submit something about there being 3 "Star Wars" entrees in the gamefaqs database. There is:

Star Wars
Star Wars
Star Wars (Japan)

The 1st listing is for the NES JVC game.
The 2nd listing is for the Famicom Namco game.
The 3rd listing is also for the Famicom Namco game.

I guess the 2nd listing should be removed, as it is the same as the 3rd listing.

I'll submit an error report at some point unless someone else wants to go ahead and do it.

I would say removing titles dupes is acceptable, BUT keeping a master list of them so we can make sure theyget cross linked with the duped titles (when completed) might make sense (maybe tell the contributor if the cross linking does not occur, so they can request said cross-link).

As an additional public service announcement, I'm sure you've all noticed how several games on the list have been "claimed" for a long time now. Many of those claims haven't been acted upon in the last 5-6 months, so it's safe to say they won't be acted upon at all. Basically, what I plan to do is this: if there are claims on the incomplete game list that were not made within THIS topic, they will be removed. That way it opens up said games for others to cover, if the original people who wanted to write for them crapped out for whatever reason.

Also, when a person "claims" a game for now on, I will also include the date on which the claim was made on the page. If a given claim is not completed within, say, 6 months, it will be removed. Keep in mind that even though a game may have been claimed, it shouldn't stop you from writing for it as well, if you feel up for it.

That's all for now.

Just so you know, I've dropped Conflict a few weeks back in case you missed it. I will probably get a move on some guides next week during reading week, but Shingen is going to take a while so I'll see that one through if I start on it, even if I'm sniped.

Sorry imperator, I can't help ya. I haven't played the game yet :P

But here's a thought - if a game is a long one, maybe periodic progress reports in the thread would work as a kind of extension. Like with Wizardry III, it may take me longer than 6 months to complete, simply because of the amount of information that will have to be covered, and the fact that I haven't previously played the game (whereas with Wizardry II, I'd be able to use my old maps and such). Or at the very least, a note in the thread when a placeholder guide is updated, in order to extend it. Some games could quite conceivably take over 6 months to complete. And sometimes people take a break from one game to work on another, so this could keep that in account too. Just a thought :P

While digging through some old NES games at a garage sale, I found out that there was a working copy of Ms. PacMan, which was the only one on the list that I bought (all the others had FAQs...). I'll play through it and detail it as much as I can.

In other words, sign me up for Ms. PacMan.

adaml, I know it's been a couple months, but I finally got to adding the long list of games you submitted to the site back in December. So as of now, the incomplete games list is for the most part accurate to my knowledge. Additionally, I removed all claims to games made prior to September 1, 2005, so the names/dates you see next to games currently were made within this topic only.

To whomever it was suggesting I don't purge it every 6 months, I'm not. It was just a suggestion. But, there have been several on there which have been claimed for over a year now, mainly by people who don't even post here anymore. So with that, I think it's safe to say they've given up on it. But if someone like Andrew Schultz claimed a game, chances are I'll leave him up there indefinitely since we all know he's good for getting the FAQ work done eventually. :)

Well, I noticed the person who claimed Wizardry II is no longer listed for it, so I suppose I could snag that too. I could probably power through an FAQ based almost entirely on the notes I have already, and I could simply incorporate the item list I already have for it into the larger FAQ, so it's already a good chunk of work done for it already. So feel free to sign me up on that too.
