Well, I thought the update I posted last week would've tipped you off.

at that point i had already started. I'm certainly not going to leave an unfinished faq unfinished. Why make a big deal out of this anyway? So now the game has two FAQs...better for the readers.

Yeah, but YOU get your name in the completion project. I've seen your Contributor page, and you're on the big Contributor Recognition page 3 times... I want some recognition too...

So take it. If you want your name recognized over mine on the completion project page, go right ahead and tell devin to change it. I only want to help gamers and GameFAQs, not so much recognition.

Well, I thought the update I posted last week would've tipped you off.

Funny enough, I found it interesting that there were two Bee 52 FAQs being updated recently (when I saw DocDragon's show up on the What's New page). No hard feelings though, this sorta thing isn't worth fighting over.

Gemerl - Yeah, my mistake. Turns out it was Andrew, and we chatted earlier about it.

A nice Chack'N Pop FAQ just appeared. Looks like it is one of those older games where the levels loop. I'm interested enough (because of the FAQ) to explore where the game may end, but it more than likely keeps repeating. Will try to find this out.

Someone figured it out for me, it does loop. I'll update the FAQ with his info.

...The same author also churned out a Jaws NES FAQ as well.
If anyone is looking for a new guide to write, try Jaws. There are only 5 FAQs for the game, including 3 from this year alone.

heh, yeah... churned out is definitely the word.
i found a 99% done FAQ on an old hd so I thought I'd submit it. I think all the Jaws FAQs mention how you can complete the game in under 15 minutes...highest FAQ-to-minute ratio award?
Pluvius | Posted 6/22/2006 4:42:21 PM | message detail
BTW, that game is listed under "Portpia Renzoku Satsujin Jiken" if you're looking for it. I tried to change it but I was rejected with "check Google." If I could dispute the rejection I would tell them to search for "Portopia" on Google instead...

I was surprised to see there was no FAQ for the Famicom game King Kong 2. Not only is it a coveted Konami game, but there are some adventure elements to it. Prime FAQ meat right here. I don't have time for it, but this is a game that truly could use a guide.

I *might* take Rainbow Islands though now that it's clear.

Just noticed that Baby Boomer doesn't have a guide. I wanted to replay it last night after seeing the ending discussed on another messageboard and the only guide for the game is it being part of the NES Zapper FAQ. There isn't much info on it there, just a regurgitation of the game's manual.

In all honesty, I couldn't beat the game yesterday. I got to a stage called The Crypt and at the end it kept telling me I took the wrong passageway. I beat this probably 10 years ago and cannot remember how I got by that stage.

Pluvius | Posted 7/12/2006 5:13:45 PM | message detail
A l e x: You missed the second quest. You play it by putting in that code you get at the end of the first quest (RDULRAB Start). It's about impossible to beat without cheats since you don't "gain levels" like you do in the first quest and the monsters are a lot harder, but the levels are all the same. The ending is different, though, which makes it worth mentioning.

The FAQ also doesn't cover all of the branches of each level, but that doesn't really matter because of how repetitive the game is. You also didn't explain what the pick-ups from the major enemies do, some of which isn't self-evident.

This really goes to show that a filled circle doesn't really tell you too much about how much of a game a FAQ covers, especially if the game is obscure like this one is. It makes the methodology of the FAQ Completion Project somewhat questionable, but trying to get filled-circle FAQs for every NES/Famicom game is at least a good start.

Regarding Dragon Buster, I've been thinking about it, and on second thought (and in retrospect) I made an error in judgement trying to make a "walkthrough" out of a game that with absolutely no use for one. Given that virtually every level, enemy and boss is identical all that really matters are the fundamentals. I'm going to give it a bit of an overhaul just to make it a little more practical.

On a somewhat related note, has anyone here actually played through Transformers: Convoy no Nazo? I've been trying to see if they even bothered to give this game an ending, but as far as I can tell, stage 9 just... loops indefinitely.

Devin Morgan | Posted 7/12/2006 6:26:31 PM | message detail
Rob, at least there would be a complete (to some degree) FAQ for every game. If there are FAQs currently posted (only one for the game in question) you feel could be improved upon, by all means go for it. But that's another story. :)

That's true. It would be a phenomenal achievement just to have anything posted for every single NES game in existence.

Regardless, it was good advice. Dragon Buster has been updated and it's as done as it's going to be. The guide is quite a bit better now as a full circle basic FAQ. Of course, there's still the sequel...

pseudo, I will look for those Ninja Kid codes when I get home later tonight.

Dragon Buster...I will have to get that game and add it to the NES Game Finishes FAQ simply because it has a 2nd Quest different ending. Is the game really that bad?

Alex, I like how your FAQ has a 2007 copyright date.

As for Transformers, the level that loops actually is finishable. There is a certain path you have to take through the level that unlocks the end of the level, kind of like the later castle stages in Super Mario Brothers. I had a website bookmarked years ago that showed the exact path but it is long gone. That would be a very useful "map" to have here on gamefaqs, a solve for that particular level.

Dragon Buster is pretty bad, mainly because it's based on an ancient arcade game. The second quest is a lot worse than the first due to its cheap difficulty.

The sequel is quite a bit less annoying, and should be a lot easier to write a FAQ for.

I knew it! As I'm playing through that level over and over again, just looping every time it finishes, I'm thinking "Either this really is the crappiest game in existence, or these awkwardly branching paths were just lifted directly from Super Mario Bros." Actually, the two aren't mutually exclusive since the game really does suck hard. I've been through that stage at least five times with different paths and it just won't stop looping. I'll keep at it, and if I can figure it out, then I can probably knock that game off the list.

That aside, I ended up randomly pulling another exceedingly atrocious game from the list of incomplete titles. Fortunately it wasn't very long, so Moon Ranger is no longer devoid of guides. Highlights from this game include one stage with three adjacent doors, two of which drop you onto a spike pit (killing you instantly) with no way of discerning which door is correct. It also features a "The end... or is it?" after the game is beaten, and follows that by just returning you to the title screen.

adaml, I am unsure as to whether you play shooters or not, but have you by chance played Twin Eagles? It's a pretty short game (25 minutes probably, five levels with five minutes each), but quite difficult even by shmup standards. I have no problem beating it (thanks to some fast reflexes), but I am confused as to what the mother ship that you hook up to at the end of every level does. If you die, you have to start all the way back at level one, and it doesn't restore any extra lives/add to your score.

By the way, Pluvius, both Portpia and Portopia would be correct. As can be seen here (tinyurled so as not to stretch the page);

http://tinyurl.com/jqdp6

There is no official English name for the game, and no English title on the box art either (and no menu screen in the game). The Romanization of it doesn't matter either way, as in that specific word, the second o can be taken out or added in and Japanese doesn't distinguish it. Whomever did the data entry on this site probably either never noticed that an o could be put in to make it easier for English users, or else wanted it to be more literal. Now shiroi, I guess she took a few liberties with it, but nothing wrong with that.

On a side note, I have to appreciate some of the reviews that you do up on TFO.

I have to admit, I myself did a double take when I saw you posting here. Does not matter too much, but it would be nice having your reviews here, so I don't have to do plenty of cross-referencing to look for a review to find out how craptastic an NES game is.
