Sadly, Moon Ranger is one of their best games. If you want horrible, try Tagin' Dragon. Has anybody ever found a pot of gold in world 1 of Menace Beach? Just wondering because I found a box mentioning it and I don't recall ever seeing one in the game. I also got the manual so I'm going to update my MB guide with the proper names and other stuff. --- |

While I'm on the subject of Twin Eagle, it seems to have had an unusual release history. Wikipedia says it was one of Home Entertainment Supplier's illegally released games in Australia, yet it was released with license in North America in 1989. However, at the same time, HES is, I believe, one of Acclaim's distributors, in this case for the region of Australia. It is also worth noting that SETA Corporation developed the original Arcade game, and MobyGames lists it as developing the NES version. So my guess is this, partly forged of guesswork: SETA developed the arcade version of Twin Eagle sometimes in 1988 or earlier, and it was published by Taito, whom at that time had a strong hand in the arcade world. A year or so later, it was then ported over to the NES, done by SETA. Romstar Corporation published it in North America, but since they didn't have an Australia subsidiary, a publishing deal was handed over to Acclaim. However, either due to the 5-game-a-year policy Nintendo had at the time or some other reason, HES was publishing NES games unlicensed. Seeing as GameFAQs doesn't list HES as publishing a game until 1990, my guess is, again, that they got the deal before HES was proven to be renegade. And, that would be that, as far as my investigation work with the help of only Google can carry me. --- When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. - Cersei Lannister to Eddard Stark, A Game of Thrones |

I've noticed that keyboard problem before, specifically with certain directions on the arrow keys. You might want to try mapping a different set of keys temporarily. Or to be really cheap, in certain situations its worked quite well, map different buttons to the same key. Handy in spots where you have to press multiple buttons at exactly the same time. Failing that, you may want to pick up a gamepad, they're pretty cheap anyway. ~Dan --- "IF ALL ELSE FAILS USE FIRE" ~Zelda II "Sound levels can fool you." ~VirtualBoy manual |

I haven't read all posts here, but have you noticed that the list also includes plenty of canceled games? I mean, one could create an FAQ for Aliens vs Predator but it would be more like this: Q. What's this game about? A. Aliens killing Predators, and vice versa. Q. How do I get the game? A. You can't, it was never completed, released nor leaked. :p A true old-skool Frequently Asked Questions. |

Odino, there are a lot of games that are listed that were never released. I mentioned before that I would love to go through and shave down the lists, as I am pretty much aware of what has been released and what has not. The only problem is that some of these unreleased games actually turn up from time to time. California Raisins and Taro's Quest are examples of games that were not released but are on gamefaqs NES lists, so weeding through the games would have a bit of uncertainty as to which games could truly be taken off. I am on the Lost Levels staff and pretty much am one of the first to hear of any new protos that get released, so let it be known that if the NES lists here need trimming I would be glad to do it. As a matter of fact, Star Trek V is one of the more recent proto NES games to turn up. It has nothing to do with Star Trek 25th Anniversary or Star Trek: The Next Generation. It is a completely different game that was actually in the rumor mill section of an old Nintendo Power years ago. I had always assumed it turned into the game we know as 25th Anniversary, but it is a unique, unreleased game. Sunman was another game that just came out of nowhere, as was Secret Ties. As for Alien vs Predator, I am 95% certain this game didn't even get close to being an NES game...yet there is always that 5% uncertainty. Another thing is that some of these games are Famicom games as well. Chesterfield and Empire City 1931 (Magnum Kiki Ippatsu) were both featured as soon to be released NES games in the same magazine back in the 80s, but never got released for the NES. However, they did come out on the Famicom, which is why they are on the NES games list. --- American NES games left to beat: 13 Last 3 NES games beaten: Tombs and Treasure, Championship Pool, Wario's Woods [Updated 11/30/05] |

Adam, could it also be argued that after X amount of years, that it becomes even more unlikely? Perhaps the list can be void of prototypes that obviously are not out there, until proven otherwise? Also, out of curiosity... What is your stance on games listed here on GameFAQs, being made by "_No_Company"? They don't appear on the List Games function at Contributor Central (it's a problem which Jeff should be working to fix sometime soon), which leads people to think there are only about 500 games without FAQs left. Here's an example of a game I'm referring to: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/nes/data/587436.html --- Devin Morgan | CRP #3579 NES Completion Project: http://faqs.retronintendo.com |

Adam, you are right. I went through the list and noticed some games even have FAQs when they unreleased so no need to take them off, but a remark might help, an asterix next to them perhaps. Obviously it will be near impossible to get project 100% done in that case but there is no time frame for it, is there? Nice to hear there are always canceled game prototypes turning up. Marking the Japan-only games might also be an idea, or give us another way to check which ones have English versions. There aren't too many games left. On the other hand, respect to the people who actually work their way through those games and get it scratched off the list. It's not always impossible to do so for non-Japanese speakers, just takes an effort. In other news, I've been working on Olympics IQ so expect it done soon. |

odino - It's been an idea I'm tossing around to redo the NES project site in PHP, in conjunction with a database. That way I could implement various types of sorts and more information pertaining to the games needing coverage. Granted, if I were to compile the data into a database, I would surely need a bit of help to get it done. Devin, I agree that the list should be excised of protos that we agree probably do not exist. In the rare circumstance that one is found, it can always be re-added to the list. As for the "_No_Company" games, a lot of these games can be reasoned out with educated guesses. The one you reference, Manipulator: Glove Adventure, would probably be by Mattel, the maker of the Power Glove, who also put out Super Glove Ball. This is not, however, a certainty, but I think most would agree it is probably the case. On a different, yet somewhat related note, a proto of U-Force Power Games, a multi-cart containing several U-Force compatible games that probably went unreleased due to the lack of interest in the U-Force peripheral, was found months back. The only problem with this is that a FAQ would only be useful to the one person who actually owns the game. Emulation is a touchy subject here, but let me just say that U-Force Power Games, although dumped, is pretty much unplayable because the U-Force isn't emulated. Odino, have fun with Olympics IQ. I actually enjoyed that game, but some of the events I was really stumped on what to do. A guide will be most useful for that one. --- American NES games left to beat: 13 Last 3 NES games beaten: Tombs and Treasure, Championship Pool, Wario's Woods [Updated 11/30/05] |

Perhaps a group effort would be useful in "cleaning up" the NES section? For instance, someone could go through games by the letter and nominate games to be purged. Let's take the letter R for example. These are games that I feel more than likely don't exist in the R category and my reasoning behind it: RIDDICK BOWE -This is one of those games where I am 99% certain a proto does not exist. It also has the "_No_Company" designation. In my 20 years of playing the NES and reading countless Nintendo Powers, Gamepros, EGMs, etc., I've only seen one mention of this game, which was in a "coming soon" section of NP. It never came. ROCKET ATTACK -I'm not sure what list Jeff used when compiling the NES section, but it is a good bet whatever list he got this from was compiled by someone who misspelled the game Racket Attack. I've seen this happen before, yet the example doesn't readily spring to mind. It also has "_No_Company" listed. ROCKY -This has the ol' "_No_Company" and it is also listed as cancelled. I might actually keep this one on the list, as I remember Nintendo Power had this as a "coming soon" game for many months. It is very likely there is a proto out there if they knew about it for so long. RODAN -Another "_No_Company" game. This more than likely would have been released by Toho, who had the NES Godzilla license. I'm not sure if this would have been it's own game or ended up turning into Godzilla 2. I would probably scratch it from the list. There are some other games I didn't recognize, but they have companies listed for them and I assume they are Famicom games. There is a master Famicom games list that I have seen in my travels and I am sure I could find it again if I looked hard enough. Now with these games, we could basically, as a group, decide which ones should stay or go. A guy by the name of Jeff D once had an awesome NES Unreleased site, which had a ton of pics and scans from magazines for pretty much every rumored game that never got released. Several of the scans were actually ones I took from old issues of EGM, Gamepro and NP. He basically gave/sold his site to someone (I think it was Skrybe), but his site seems to have vanished. --- American NES games left to beat: 13 Last 3 NES games beaten: Tombs and Treasure, Championship Pool, Wario's Woods [Updated 11/30/05] |
