Oh, I found some good information on Recca. Probably the most complete FAQ on it so far.

Family Trainer - Running Stadium = World Class Track Meet / Stadium Events

That's true, nice catch once again; in the queue to be merged.

And that means there is an FAQ for it, too!!

quite a few actually... the game has got some attention recently from a couple authors.

Also known as Time Diver Avenger, if memory serves. Pirates found an English prototype of it and released it under that name.

odino | Posted 9/1/2006 8:25:07 PM | message detail
So this is actually a proper prototype of the game? In that case we might want to add it.

"Magic Jewelry" is also new to the db. Though I won't try to add that many unlicensed games especially if I don't have access to it.
pseudo | Posted 9/1/2006 8:45:44 PM | message detail
Two more to merge/take off the incomplete games list.

Kyoro-Chan Land = Castelian
Argos no Senshi = Rygar

I wrote a guide for Castelian already and Rygar/Argos no Senshi is already merged.

Both Time Diver Avenger and the real Eon Man prototype exist as ROM dumps. The differences are slight.

A whole list of her FAQs that were nullified is at Crazyreyn's FAQ Writers History site.

In any case one of them is back up. Q*Bert.

I'm a bit lost for NES games right now so any suggestions would be nice. But if I have nothing else to do I'll just go ahead with those other Q*Bert versions I found. All sorts of interesting ones.
---
I wish I had a clever webpage to put here.
Pluvius | Posted 9/11/2006 7:19:26 PM | message detail
I've been waiting for you to ask for suggestions. I already mentioned Super Black Onyx. There's also Eggland: Meikyuu no Fukkatsu, which has recently been translated as "Eggerland: Revival of the Labyrinth," which is part of the Adventures of Lolo franchise but definitely has a Legend of Zelda feel to it unlike the rather more linear style of the mainline games. Another recently translated puzzle game is the prototype of Pescatore, which I just noticed hasn't yet been listed at GameFAQs. It wouldn't take very long to write a FAQ for that as it's quite simple.

Now let me take a look at the list of puzzle games I've skipped because they didn't have FAQs. Many of them you've recently written FAQs for, but... Oh yeah, I don't know how I forgot about this one since I'm going to be playing it again shortly, but Back to the Future 2 & 3 needs a full FAQ. The current FAQ covers BttF 2 well enough, but BttF 3 has some difficult puzzle rooms that could really use some posted solutions. Joshua doesn't have a full FAQ either, but I doubt you'd want to deal with that one, what with Crystal Mines and all. Hey, Tetris 2 doesn't have a real FAQ, that's surprising.

Back to Japanese games again: Blodia Land should be interesting; I don't remember much about it, but it was kind of like Pipe Dream in a way. Great Deal is like Palamedes except it uses poker cards. Tabo's Tactics (Minna no Tabou no Nakayoshi Daisakusen) has one of those weird Rubik's-Cube-like sliding puzzle games (and so does the Sachen game Locksmith, incidentally). "Parareru World" (Parallel World) is like Blodia Land with the Pipe Dream feel.

That should definitely be more than enough suggestions than you need. If I think of any more I'll let you know.

I'd be all over Eggerland if it wasn't already claimed two months ago. I plan to eventually have that entire series under my belt (If I can ever get my hands on Revival! Eggerland) so I _will_ be writing for it regardless but I'll give the author who signed up the chance to get the guide out.

If you are only going to link the Arcade Q*Bert guide maybe somebody else can still write a pure NES one?

Often these linked guides are very much the same but I find it annoying when reading a GameCube walkthrough for a PS2 game, talking about all sorts of weird button combinations.

Personally I hope those incomplete guides will eventually be touched up to full. Not always likely but might as well give them a chance ;) That concerns BttF2/3, Secret Scout and a few others.

A few suggestions:

Bandit Kings of Ancient China
Cool World
Elite
King Kong 2
Mappy
Pac-Land
Penguin & Seal
Smash TV
Stack-Up
Time Diver: Eon Man
Volguard II

Tagin' Dragon (Colorful Dragon) is still beyond me. I have tried again and again but there is no way to beat the first level. Perhaps somebody can enlighten me?
the_wizard_666 | Posted 9/12/2006 8:22:40 AM | message detail
Bandit Kings would be a monumental task to get properly covered, even for someone who has played it for years. I might do it at some point, but I don't see me tackling a project that big when I'm having difficulty finding time to do guides for smaller games. I might attempt Nobunaga's Ambition II once my CIB copy arrives, but I don't want to even attempt that until I get that damn manual :P
Gemerl | Posted 9/12/2006 8:24:44 AM | message detail
Pseudo, I haven's played through the game but if you post an image we may be able to help anyways. Just include any relevant info: Don Medusa movement, which Heart Framers give magic shots, and if there are any enemy respawn points aside from the norm.

Hi odino,

The NES and Arcade versions are identical enough that I didn't think a second FAQ was warranted. I addressed the differences early on, and I figured it might save some duplicate effort. I may run through the NES version again(I already have, and it was because of the similarity--when levels speed up, when monsters appear) that I tried for a two-for-one) to make sure, but I know in particular that organizing the controls(or emulator keyboard setup) for maximum usability was one of the first things I addressed.

I think Q*Bert is one of those games that port extremely well because it's so linear. Diagonal but still linear--it's not fundamentally different like the arcade vs PSX or Q*Bert vs Q*Bert II GameBoy.

And to you and Pluvius, thanks for the suggestions. I'm on a Q*Bert binge(the whole game series) right now and need some time off from the NES but it would be cool to see other people maybe take something on the list. Sometimes I just need to stare at a cool name until I get the will power to go ahead with the game.

I'd look forward to an Eggerland FAQ from the current reserver or Gemerl. Sorta wish I'd reserved it myself but I have enough to do!

Sounds good, linked guide PLUS mentioned the difference, well covered. The "This game has at least 1 complete FAQ from another system." ones are lower priority anyway. Though I was saying maybe somebody else can write a NES-only version, there were after all 2 people interested. Unless you care a lot about your name on the Completed Guides list.

Bandit Kings of Ancient China is quite tough, but there are plenty of Romance of the Three Kingdoms FAQs so it's not impossible. Nice to see somebody is interested in it.

So anyone for Tagin' Dragon? Seems like there is no way to beat the first level, even when you manage to stay alive for long enough.

Submitted a bunch today, not sure some have too much filler...
odino | Posted 9/12/2006 2:40:52 PM | message detail
All accepted.

And Math Quiz and Magic Mathematics is the same if I'm not mistaken, the latter has 2 release dates but still trying to remove the first one.
ASchultz | Posted 9/12/2006 2:55:28 PM | message detail
First, wow, that's a lot of FAQs there odino, nice work!

Second, I misunderstood you there--it would be neat to see someone write a Q*Bert FAQ specifically for NES and I don't particularly mind having my name up there one more or less time. Looks like I was unclear on what comprised a guide for the project. It's one of those things where I'm 99.9% confident that my NES observations jibed with the arcade.

But if someone else writes a pure NES guide I wouldn't mind that at all. I just tried to take care of 2 similar games at once without having cut-and-paste boosts for separate and very similar guides.

odino - Math Quiz is listed as two separate games (the one connected to Magic Mathematics is an AU release, while the other is the EU one). Do you have any information on that?

BTW, congrats on getting our project to the 250 completed FAQs mark. :D

Well do we really need to re-do guides that are linked from somewhere else? As pointed out they are often more than good enough. Perhaps a case-by-case check? I think it's only around 10 games that are affected, unless somebody gets people like War Doc to link more guides such as Crazy Climber.

I did some checking and Math Quiz / Magic Mathematics is one of those box / cartridge label mix-ups. Turns out HES did release this in Australia which I added today, but the EU release is wrong and I hope it gets deleted with the next update.
Pluvius | Posted 9/12/2006 5:21:29 PM | message detail
Colorful/Tagin' Dragon is pretty easy once you figure out what you're supposed to be doing. The object of the level is to bite the tails off of the enemies without getting your own tail bitten off. You do this by pressing A when your head is over an enemy tail. As the enemy's tail gets shorter yours gets longer, which gives you more life but also makes it easier to get bitten.

odino | Posted 9/12/2006 6:29:22 PM | message detail
Ah of course, but still a pretty lousy game. Maybe you will write a guide instead? ;)

On another note, does 'Alien Storm' actually exist? Release date with no company, I don't even find any info saying it was in development or canceled, not for the NES at least.
pseudo | Posted 9/12/2006 8:17:40 PM | message detail
Gemerl, thanks for the offer but I think I got it now. I forgot about respawn points like ProA on Lolo2.
adaml | Posted 9/12/2006 8:19:19 PM | message detail
I know Alien Storm came out for the Genesis. I'm somewhat certain there is a SMS version as well. I'm 99.9% certain there is no NES proto of the game out there.

Ah, that's good you've figured it out. It's funny how the Lolo series works in that respect. If you're confused, take a break and realize just part of information while you're doing other things -> everything comes together. Like solving a puzzle in the shower ;).

I was the one who signed up for it, but if you really want to make a guide for it, then go ahead. :)
I've been taking things slowly, like 3 rooms a week, so it'll probably take a while until it's finished. I could stop, it wouldn't bother me at all. So if you want I'll gladly let you do the guide instead. Just let me send you a map that I made. It contains all the rooms (well every room that is on the regular map) in the game. It's really cool!

Triwailende | Posted 9/14/2006 2:21:03 PM | message detail
Thanks! I'll probably need a little bit of luck, since I forgot how to solve 3 of the most annoying rooms ever. But I still love this game very much!

But there is one room that I cannot figure out how to beat. Lolo starts on the lower right side and there's only one door. There are two rows of Gols, one containing 4 and the other 5. There are 6 emerald frames (2 groups with 3 each) and 2 heart frames (you don't get any magic shots). Now you have to walk past the two rows of Gols in order to reach the chest, which seems (but isn't) impossible since they always hit you with fire. I think you get a key from this room.

I've beaten every other room on the maps (and the "hidden" ones too). I know I solved some rooms the "wrong" way, because I didn't even have to use the hammer in one room.
pseudo | Posted 9/14/2006 2:25:02 PM | message detail
What's the coodinate of the room? I'm about 40 or so rooms into the game... maybe I've done it before but it doesn't sound familar right now.

---
Gemerl | Posted 9/14/2006 2:38:50 PM | message detail
Hmm. Can you post an image of this room?

If the Gols are all together in lines then you should be able to cover them all with five Emerald Framers if you place them between the Gols.

Nope no special powers, no "?", nothing.
You can't even shoot them.
Gemerl | Posted 9/14/2006 4:22:29 PM | message detail
That's bloody brutal... there's nothing under the left framers is there? Or maybe if you make their positions oppose or match the right framers?

No idea, I'm groping in the dark here. I guess I should really try and play the game myself as it's much easier to perceive the puzzles that way.

Let us know if you figure it out.
