NES FAQ Completion Project, Part 5

Who would have thought the NES FAQ Completion project proposed by Andrew Schultz would still be trucking along almost 2 years after the original post was made back in May 2004? We've seen both newbies and gamefaqs legends take part in this project to chip away at the vast wall of NES and Famicom titles. It's great to see a lot of the lesser known games getting covered after years of obscurity. I would have never thought every NES game could possibly have its own FAQ, but because of this project it is seriously creeping closer to reality. Check it out: http://faqs.retronintendo.com/ As Mr. Sulphur once wrote, Onwards my cohorts, for the NES commands it! --- American NES games left to beat: 13 Last 3 NES games beaten: Tombs and Treasure, Championship Pool, Wario's Woods [Updated 11/30/05] |

Mahjong FAQ got rejected for lack of content. I'll try replacing the "I will assume you already know how to play Mahjong" with an explanation of the rules, but there is a limit to how much much can be written in a guide to a simple NES Mahjong game. It's not like anyone reading this guide won't know the rules of the game anyway - how often to you see FAQs for sports games detailing how the sport works? --- My nick's Adamant. I have a "no 1" that looks stupid. Would've changed it if I could without losing karma. So it's Adamant, not Adamanto or Adamantno. |

Adamantno1, you should definately write how to play, general FAQs might only get an empty circle if they don't cover these things. Nice to see Mahjong getting some coverage. I'll work on Shanghai 2 at some point in time, maybe today :) Some more updates: The Frankenstein games were merged, both had guides already. +Othello (HES) -Ferrari = Ferrari Grand Prix Challenge -Effort -> Kick Challenger: Air Foot (FDS) -I'm quite sure the Fast Break on your list refers to Magic Johnson's Fast Break, right? -Rush Up is under ' World Champ'. - You list both Exciting Rally and World Rally Championship which are 'Championship Rally'. -Rodan is not in the db, I think it became Godzilla 2. -Titan Warriors is not in the db, looks like it used to be. :/ -Finally, the old 'Terminator 2 Arcade Game isn't in the db either. I see why CJay gets his stats different. :) Scarabeus = Pyramids of Ra ; I suggest putting Pyramids of Ra / Scarabeus maybe, are both protos playable? Both 'Paw Man' games were renamed to the correct Paaman. I was looking at Paaman 2, looks interesting. Anyone played/finished it? Are the four characters differeint in visuals only? |

Mahjong FAQ got an increase from 5 kb to 23 kb, with relatively detailed coverage of most aspects of the game (apart from scoring, because it's incredibly compicated, and the game does it for you anyway (which is why I prefer computer Mahjong to the real thing - you don't need to study rulebooks for years to learn every single instance which adds an incosequental point to your hand value). The index reads as follow: INDEX: 1: Revision History 2: Game Data 3: Controls 4: The rules of Mahjong 5: Melds 6: Dora 7: Stealing 8: Reach 9: Han 10: Scoring 11: Menus 12: Tiles 13: How to play 14: Disclaimer I think that should cover the game well enough. --- My nick's Adamant. U-Force Power Games isn't in the db, somebody must have removed it. Although as Adam said in #4 this proto won't be very playable anyway should it ever show up. Also missing is Riddick Bowe. Crossbow should have a yellow circle, Battles of Napoleon was actually released in Japan. |

Don't really have anything to add, just want to say good job so far. 270 complete NES FAQs aren't easy to do. I'm not really going to add any more to this project since I don't really have any more interest in the remaining NES games, but great job. --- The one and only. |

Adamantno1 - Would you be interested in covering the remaining Mahjong games as well? Your FAQ for the "main" Mahjong game sets a precedent, so it should definitely be easy for you to quickly FAQ all the others. :) Sure, if Ceej accepts FAQs that are 90% indetical to other FAQs (Mahjong is Mahjong, and explaining the rules in 20 different ways seems rather pointless). --- My nick's Adamant. My Portopia walkthrough was rejected because I don't state the Japanese commands. What I need is someone to make a short list of the main menu (Move...Investigate...) in JIS for some extra credit... Thanks. The same goes for the Igo games, I don't mind going co-editor by using my existing Go guide, the ones left (Igo Shinan -> 94) have a little more complicated menus for me to comprehend. +Mahjang Companion There are a few more Mahjong games by Hacker, but they are quite LQ and I won't add them. -Tough Cop -Cosmocop Both are on the 2 in 1 only. Speaking of Cosmocop, is there a way to reload or is 99 bullets all you get? After Tough Cop I don't really expect anything anymore... |

I really need to check this topic more often. About a half month or so back, I had worked halfway through a walkthrough for Esper Dream 2, not realizing my good friend ninjasan8 had also started working on it. I will still, nevertheless, see it to completion. I haven't had the time to do anything since then, but I have recently come into a week break. I am looking at either Venus Senki or Madara to do first before I touch Esper Dream 2 (I do not like the difference in wording that lulls in writing causes) again. After that, I will likely do the other of the former two. --- When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. - Cersei Lannister to Eddard Stark, A Game of Thrones |

Venus Senki AKA Venus Senkai AKA Venus Wars AKA Another translation botch-job by J2e Translations submitted. I would recommend thats someone check out Layla. It's a very playable game, with Metroid-type action, but the levels are a lot more linear, so I don't think it would be too hard to FAQ. As with the original Dragon Buster FAQ, the second quest of Tower of Druaga hasn't been covered. Since the code I gave for Dragon Buster was stolen by someone, I'm going to submit the code for Tower of Druaga to GameFAQs before I reveal what it is, but I'll send Odino an email if he wants it. However, I haven't seen directions for how to complete any of the levels of the second quest anywhere online, and I had to cheat (by making the treasure chest pop up at the beginning of each level) in order to beat it. (I think I was forced to figure out how to complete the last two levels legitimately, but they weren't very hard.) So I'll be surprised if the second quest gets solved any time soon. Good job on the first quest, though; Tower of Druaga really needed a FAQ. Rob |
