NES FAQ Completion Project, Part 6

adaml | Posted 2/2/2008 7:14:52 PM | message detail
Darkstar, even though Odino doesn't seem to want me to ramble on about the 11 games I have left to beat, I will re-list them again anyway :)

-Fisher Price: I Can Remember
-Predator
-Contra
-Sesame Street ABC
-Mega Man 2
-Jackal
-Barbie
-Bubble Gum Rosie (from Action 52)
-Predator
-Nuts & Milk
-Predator
-Major League Baseball
-Beat 'em & Eat 'em

Congrats on finding what you were looking for. Silver Eagle is actually pretty cool once you figure out what is going on.

Adam, do you actually have the Miracle Piano? I was almost compelled to suggest that someone buys it to do the FAQ (or sponsors the cost so someone aside from themselves can do it). Heh.

You still have yet to beat Mega Man 2 and Contra? You need to get on that!

As for Silver Eagle, it is slowly making sense to me. If anyone pray chance actually has a manual or any documentation on this game, are those switches 'switches', bombs that I am triggering, or what now? I suppose I can just make stuff up for what exactly it is you are accomplishing (aka walking over a bunch of objects to metamorph them), but it would help to know what storyline wise it is supposed to mean. I have figured out what all the power-ups do as well. Took me a bit to realize it is basically two different games tacked together.

There are only four missions, right?

-Fisher Price: I Can Remember (should be easy enough)
-Predator (never played it)
-Contra (beat it a long time ago... if I recall just takes some practice and pattern memorization)
-Sesame Street ABC (again, has to be pretty easy)
-Mega Man 2 (tons of FAQs available for this one, and it is likely the easiest Mega Man game)
-Jackal (takes practice, though if you play very conservatively, only the last level is really mean)
-Barbie (never played it)
-Bubble Gum Rosie (from Action 52) (Admiral and I got some new info on that one and Admiral made an update on it, so check it out)
-Predator (never played it... why is this on twice?)
-Nuts & Milk (fun game)
-Predator (again on here?)
-Major League Baseball (pretty cruddy ball game from what I recall)
-Beat 'em & Eat 'em (no... just no)

Adam made that list up, the actual games are much harder to complete.
DarkstarRipclaw | Posted 2/3/2008 12:54:37 PM | message detail
Well, odino sent me a scan of the manual, so it all makes a lot more sense to me now. First mission done now, so unless the other three are much larger, this makes 25% done.

Devin, I actually do own the Miracle Piano Teaching System, complete in box. Odino has been not-so-subtly hinting at me FAQing it for the last year or so. I know absolutely nothing about playing the piano. If I wanted to read a guide on this game, I would want the author to at least know the basics so he could lead me through the game.

That being said, if it comes right down to it and we are nearing the end of the project and nobody has done it, I guess you can count on me for it. I mean, it is a teaching system, so I guess I could learn it. Plus, if the project is that far along, it would actually mean more to me doing a game that pretty much every FAQ writer alive passed over (not because of lack of wanting to do it, but because they didn't have the actual system).

And about that list of games, I forgot to mention Predator.

Mint or just complete? If it's just complete then it might be an option down the road. But don't feel pressured. I'd play it if it were mint, but I wouldn't expect you to compromise your swag if that's the case.

On another note, I just did a side-by-side comparison list with complete translations released for Japanese NES games and unFAQed games. The following have complete translations and have not yet been worked on;

•Airwolf (Japan)
•AstroFang: Super Machine
•Chuka Taisen
•Daisenryaku (why has this one not been done yet?...)
•Dezaemon (seems fairly nifty to me)
•Dragon Buster II
•Fuzzical Fighter
•Mouryou Senki Madara (I have this claimed, not completely sure whether it is a matter of if or when I will get to it)
•Mugen Senshi Valis
•Paaman Part 2
•Spelunker 2

And then probably some I missed due to alternate names.

Problem is that the game doesn't work without the keyboard and I haven't seen it emulated. So count me out for that, but a few pages back pseudo said he might write an FAQ as he bought the set.

Wow...Devin, you got Keisan Game 5/6 done too. You're on a roll lately!

I completed Wizardry III, complete with bonus map, and Da Hui was kind enough to give his Trolls on Treasure Island to DrLagoona and me and relinquish authorship. So we should be co authoring that soon.

Still working on Little Ghosts, too. 500 games complete, here we come.

Indeed. I felt particularly inspired over my winter break, so I did some small projects starting with Back to the Future 2&3 (for the FAQ bounty of course). I guess the motivation is still carrying over since I've been picking off a number of games lately. Hope it lasts. :)

•Mugen Senshi Valis

This game is really difficult and confusing, but I did find a youtube video if anyone is interested:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hPkafx4hrs&mode=related&search=

I'm not sure how much, if anything, is skipped due to manipulation in that video, but it would most likely help out anyone interested in writing a guide.

I'd love to see a guide up for Eggerland. Eggerland completion on this site is a personal project.

I'll probably be working on Revival! Eggerland's full version next. I'm 3/5 the way through a Souzouhe no Tabidachi guide right now.

We were just discussing FDS games a few pages back. But it IS an untapped resource, definitely some good guides to be written there.

Yeah, I'll try getting a guide up. Some of the rooms in the FDs Eggerland are just unfairly cryptic, forcing you to manipulate the terrain in various non-traditional ways. I know one where you have to place some emerald framers in the exact right position to make some rock magically disappear, and another where some hearts are blocked in by rocks, one of which I think becomes moveable once you grab all the other hearts. I had to resort to a hint sheet in Japanese I found by googling, and even that just provided some vague hints for only a few of the worst puzzles.

Got through Chiisana Obake: Acchi Socchi Kocchi("Little Ghosts") on SBAllen's vacation day and I think Peepar Time won't be too far behind.

I'm almost reduced to asking for new games again, but I guess I have a couple more to look at. For Peepar Time I made maps for all the levels today, and once you figure what to do, most of the challenge is just remembering what is off the screen. I still have no idea why it's called what it is, though.

My glasses! Without them, I'm helpless!
Gemerl | Posted 2/6/2008 9:35:34 AM | message detail
If it works like Meikyuu no Fukkatsu's special effects then yeah, some of the puzzles are extremely unorthodox. They at least give you a hint box in that game regarding what you have to manipulate but it still takes a long time to figure them out.

At the very least Eggerland cannibalizes itself for rooms, there's a lot of repeats in the series, so if you played other Lolo games since then you'll probably have no trouble getting through it again.

Andrew, don't feel bad. I'm kind of in a rut as far as my 'next' idea for this project goes too. I have a few games in mind, a couple of them I've mentioned to others recently, but I have yet to beat either so that has to wait. I seem to enjoy the short, quirky/fun games, platformers, sports games, etc.

It is fun to find the small games--but I like to have a few in advance for just in case I get on a roll or have a lot of time. Problem is, if I have a big game to play, I don't have the time, and if there's a small one, not enough time :).

Anyway, Peepar Time complete. Mapping out Hotman.

Know what, I think I'm going to try my hand at Wagyan Land 3. The "boss" of the first level has already tested my patience (it's one of those word chain games, which means I need to know a lot of random vocabulary in order to "win" - joy). Nonetheless, I will persevere and we will have another FAQ done. :)

Valis finally has a complete walkthrough!! I remember thinking I could just blow through this game in one sitting. I had no idea what I was in for. Too bad we have to wait until Monday for it to post. Whatever happened to the weekend updates here? Even the post office delivers on Saturday.

Will be good to see that Silver Eagle FAQ. I played through the game really quickly, so it will be good to read through that to see if I missed anything. I still need to play through Grand Master at some point too.
