NES FAQ Completion Project, Part 6

odino | Posted 6/1/2007 9:45:24 PM | message detail
I just submitted an update with a second are complete. It's not too long but I don't know if I'll work on it daily. Thanks for the confidence :D

odino, out of sheer curiosity... How are you able to cover all of these Japanese games in short time with seemingly little effort? I would cover more of them as well, but I find that it'd take a bit more time and effort to translate as well as play. I wanted to know how you did it. :P

By the way, does anybody happen to have a manual for Metal Mech (physical or scanned)? I've searched every manual site I came across using Google, and none of them seem to have a manual for it. The game will be a lot easier to FAQ if somebody could send me a scan.

I work on quite a bunch at the same time so when one is done that doesn't mean I started when the last one was finished. Also so far I've only covered rather simple games but eventually I will look into investing more time in one project alone rather than multi-task.

Speaking of translation, I've done so as well. There are 4 projects currently underway but I've already FAQed one of the games. I will leave it up to the individuals involved in the hacking process to announce those when they are done. They are games I would probably not write a walkthrough for myself so I hope they bring joy to others.
chessjerk | Posted 6/3/2007 1:07:02 AM | message detail
I see the project is moving along nicely. :)

I finally got around to finishing and submitting my NES Play Action Football FAQ.

Hmmm...Arkanoid 2 says someone (Tidus9554) claimed this in 2005, is he still working on this? If not, I could take that, if not, I'll take Klax.

You can take Arkanoid II if you want. I mean, if someone claimed it over a year ago and still hasn't completed it, I'd say it's fair game. :)

Sounds good to me. :)

Also, with Klax, it looks like ASchultz did a FAQ for the arcade version, and that version is also linked on the NES game. If the games are exactly the same, would we still need a separate FAQ for the NES version?

^ We wouldn't, although it would be nice to have a short "NES Version Info" section or somethiing similar. The problem is knowing if the versions are really identical.
dlcb1 | Posted 6/5/2007 11:09:20 AM | message detail
I'm in the mood for writing some random guide.

Can I get a request/recommendation? I'd like to know that my guide would help someone at least. I would prefer something fairly difficult that doesn't require knowledge of another language.

The good thing about writing a guide for NES Ultima V is that its gameplay is very different from the other versions. The bad thing is that it really, really sucks.

So I don't open up a can of worms, allowing some guides to be used freely and some not. I was also never really happy with some of those Sachen FAQs but this is better than just pulling them and leaving nothing.

I didn't know many people have that piano. I saw it on eBay for $15 but only the carts. Maybe you can get one of your kids to FAQ for it (one day) ;) I can already see it, AdamLJr...

If my kids are like 99% of other kids these days, they'll be into the Playstation 5 games and won't touch anything older than a Playstation 3. If there were a Cars game for the NES though, I'm sure he would want to FAQ that. He is 3 years old and knows every single character from that movie. The wife just found a Bling Bling McQueen and Tex Dinoco for him at WalMart yesterday and he hasn't let it go yet.

Haven't had time to finish up Grand Master, but I've noticed this:

Linus Spacehead's Cosmic Crusade FAQ
"For all practical purposes, it is identical to the game known as Linus Spacehead for the 8-bit Nintendo."

And I'm quite sure they are the same and it says the 2P mode is only on the GEN.

If I can give a recommandation for a game that needs a guide, I'll mention Youkai Douchuuki (GameFAQs calls it Shadow Land, even though the NES version was never released under that name, only the arcade version), a fun little platformer with a so-called "pious" system I can't make heads or tails of.

Oh yeah, and I'll get around to doing those Mahjong FAQs I mentioned last year or so (been a while, huh?) soon :P

Has anyone played Shanghai for the Famicom? I'm looking at it for my NES Game Endings FAQ and it seems like you just play one game, finish it and start over with a new game. Even if you select "Tournament" from the bottom it seems like you just play one game and it is back to the start.

Is there anyone familiar with this game that knows something about it I do not (like how the heck you play an actual tournament)?

Nice to hear you are still doing some Mahjong games.

I was going to do Youkai Douchuuki one day, but it's a long way into the NES FAQ queue right now. Anyone else likes to tackle Youkai Club? That would be the last Y game on the list afterwards.

Hiya, just wanted to drop in here. I'd said a while back that I had hoped to be able to fill in the entry for Dance Aerobics. I did do a decent amount of work toward it, but, unfortunately, I've been rather sidetracked by a bunch of other stuff over the past year, and it's kind of stagnated since then.
I still have what I've done sitting around, and maybe one of these days I'll get a chance to finish it, but, not sure when (if at all) that'll be, and, not actively working on it at the moment.

So, if anyone else wants to give that game a shot (or just if anyone wants to remove my name from the list so that anyone else looking over it who might do it doesn't pass over it), that's fine.
As I said, maybe one of these days I'll be able to finish it up, one never knows, and if I do of course I'll submit it.

Sorry about that.

Hey all, Odino just made a nice FAQ for Tokoro-San...if anyone feels like playing through it and gets a different ending, let us know. I can't really accept that cheesy ending being all there really is for playing through each province.

When the
tank is empty, it will still squirt out some drops just in front of you.

Sounds like a really bad morning in Vegas.

Odino, you should FAQ Magic Candle.

LOL, it's up to 50kb already. But I won't released it until "somebody" comes up with the Nintendo World Championships 1990 guide ;)

I don't particularly like Skull & Crossbones and I hope somebody will try to get the bounty. It's not a very difficult game to figure out. Slowly these bounties will eat up what's left of the 81 NES games released in the US. I'm thinking 'Back to the Future II & III' will be a bounty soon as it's always high up on popularity listing, but perhaps CJay reads the reviews when picking something for these old consoles...
Son Kain | Posted 7/11/2007 10:22:11 PM | message detail
I played it back when Something Awful reviewed it. Was a pretty...awful game to say the least. Simple though, just tedious and vastly unfair gameplay. I'll try and tackle it, I remember beating a few levels and giving up to ninjas at one point :(

Peace and blessings to everyone... I have a couple messages to specific people and then I would like to request a couple games.

To Odino: I believe on the project, Part 5 message board you said something about being stuck in a Mississippi adventure game. Would that game be Mississippi Satsujin Jiken: Murder on the Mississippi? If so, I have a Japanese guidebook for this game and may be able to help you get through any trouble spots, though you'll have to bear with me as I'm just learning Japanese.

To DBM (Devin) and Odino: I have recently posted quite a few box images for Famicom Disk and Pc-Engine games, and I think I have replaced many of your images. I've found that with Famicom Disk box shots, there is a lot of inconsistency as to what is being submitted. I have been scanning the manuals for the frontal shot, and the back of the outer soft box, with the disk and box labels showing. This is the way that games look sealed. Please check out some of my box shot submissions to see what I've been doing, or check out this game as an example:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/fds/image/578583.html?box=18760

For my games that are still sealed, I have left the manuals inside of the soft box so i wouldn't have to unseal my games. I have noticed that there have been many Famicom Disk box art submissions that appear to be scans of the title card which comes in the hard case that holds the disk. However, the front of the title card is never visible from the outside of a sealed Famicom Disk game, only the back.

To DBM (Devin): I recently updated the release info for NES Hardware and Turbo CD. You have a box shot of the 1993 AV Famicom submitted for the original 1983 release. If you still have the images, would you mind re-submitting them under the correct release? Also, I would like to ask how you got such a high quality image. I have boxes for the Famicom Disk and the US Turbo Duo but can't get a decent photo and the boxes are too big for my scanner... Any instruction would be helpful.

I would like to claim two NES games for FAQS, if they have not already been claimed:
Nobunaga's Ambition II and Romance of the Three Kingdoms II. I want to include in my FAQs strategies as well as officer data -- the year and fief/province number of every officer that appears in the game. They will probably be ongoing projects until I get some kind of guide book or hacking work done, but I should be able to post solid FAQs for both within a year.

Please feel free to respond in the thread or directly to my e-mail address which is listed on my contributor info page.

Peace and blessings,

~ Eric

Uh, somebody actually knows Mississippi Satsujin Jiken: Murder on the Mississippi!? I've been stuck on it for several months or whenever I made that post. I'm very near the end but then I can't get the suspects to give their statements properly. I might be doing something wrong there, or maybe I did with the evidence. It isn't too straightforward. If I'm not mistaken you can take 2 statements and then tell others about one or the other. Maybe you can even get stuck if saying the wrong thing, I'm not sure. The interrogations can be done in different orders. I have checked serveral guides before and they are often wrong or just do the things so different that I don't know how I can match my info to it. How about I send you my nearly complete walkthrough and you could see if you can finish it? I'd love to see this done, especially because there seems to be lots of wrong info floating around the 'net but also as I've done so much work to write a decent guide and can't get it completed.

Good luck with Nobunaga's Ambition II, Romance of the Three Kingdoms II already has guides though.
lioncub4 | Posted 7/13/2007 9:03:03 AM | message detail
Odino,

Thanks for the heads-up on Romance 2! Nobunaga 2 will be plenty of work anyway.

By all means send me what you have so far on Mississippi and I'll see what I can do. I'm really into all the detective games on the NES and Famicom disk. The only one we ever saw here in the states was Deja Vu. I've started collecting them so I have quite a few, and I do have a couple guide books, including Murder on the Mississippi.

I'll be happy to help out if I can. Were you able to find my e-mail address?
