NES FAQ Completion Project, Part 6

odino | Posted 7/16/2007 2:25:41 PM | message detail
Great work with the scrollers. Those two were some great games not yet covered.

While I was looking into the Ninja-Kun series I noticed one guide was up already, and the three-level-loop makes this complete instead of empty circle. Let's call it a 'winnie the poop 2' retirement gift.
Gemerl | Posted 7/16/2007 3:56:20 PM | message detail
Thanks. Anyone know if Mappy Kids ever had some kind of translation, even if just an explanation of the minigames on a site? I'd love to do it - the main game is easy enough but I can't follow the instructions for the minigames.

Looks like the Piano champ has posted a flowchart for Atlantis no Nazo... Anyone willing to take another whack at this game (pseudo)? :)

pseudo | Posted 7/16/2007 5:07:20 PM | message detail
I don't know when I'm going to finish it to be truthful. If someone else wants to write they are welcome to it, but I'll still probably finish mine sometime in the future. One question that bothered me was if there was a way, once you got the treasure, to go back to the first zone, where the balloon was? Maybe that would trigger the ending if there is one.

Great job with Recca, Gemerl, though I'm sorry I didn't live up to my side of our agreement...
I've been really busy the last while. Was it Gun-Nac and Recca, or some other game we agreed too? Anyway, great job.

I know I haven't been part of this project lately, but I still want to contribute! =P

Put me down for the Flinstones game that's left.

I forgot all about the pseudo, but don't sweat it either way. No sense making a few casual sentences on the 'net into a dire binding contract.

I think Fire Emblem series is quite popular. But I have difficulties to find the english translation of Fire Emblem 1. Does someone know about it?

This might help with Atlantis:

That game looks quite big.

Don't know anything about Mappy Kids, but I think Adam was playing it just the other day.

Hey cool dudes and foxy mommas, I don't suppose anyone could help with these?

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a369/CreamRabbit/MappyFlag.png

Commands from the game where you have to raise the red, white, or both flags in Mappy Kids. Some texts have different results on the outcome of my actions so I'm not quite sure it's as mundane as colour.

So far the flag minigame is the only one that would be difficult to FAQ due to language barriers.

Rough translation:

1. white (shiro) without raising
2. red (aka) raise
3. white (shiro) lower
4. white (shiro) not lower

Quite easy to remember are the bold characters that point up and down, they are "upper/above" and "under/below". Good luck.

Just for kicks, I searched for the project's site on archive.org, and it's actually being archived!

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://faqs.retronintendo.com

I found that amusing actually - I wasn't really expecting it to be archived, being a subdomain and all...

I made a new guide for Crayon Shin-Chan under PD. It was still larger than expected (7kb) but there isn't much to include than the rules and some basic strategies.

The Datach version is exactly the same but uses a different cartridge. I'd planned on covering both with one guide, so let's see if that will happen. No need to credit me for both games though, same for those Mine Sweeper "games".

And good luck to Adam for beating this one...
Da Hui | Posted 7/18/2007 6:29:43 PM | message detail
OMG!!! May we all praise PianoChampion for completing the worst game left! Wayne Gretzky Hockey!!!!! Yipee!!

Does s/he even know about this project? Somebody should try to contact them and let them know their efforts are much appreciated and point them in our direction for any help they might need. :)

I was considering just adding their work to the completed list, but I can't be too sure if they know of the project. Given the diversity of the games, not to mention none of them had prior FAQs, it's a good bet he does know. Until he comes here to post however, I won't add his name to the list...

After several weeks I have finally completed The Magic Candle. Some of you already knew I was working on it. I hope it's good enough for people to play without understand what's going on, I tried to make it really simply (plus the game is quite simple when you get into it).

One more smaller project to finish and I'll either find something great to FAQ next, or take a break.
adaml | Posted 7/19/2007 4:34:18 PM | message detail
Odino, you are not allowed to take breaks, you are a machine. Just have someone plug you into the wall socket overnight and you will be ready for another 4660KB.

I've done a rough guide for Higemaru, but couldn't finish with any secret ending. There are a few more unresolved things left to figure out, too.

Anyone can check into http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown/7768/makaij-fr.html and extract some info? My ISP doesn't load most of those free sites like geocities.

What I haven't confirmed yet is whethere the is a secret ending, I've tried finishing on different health to match that designer's birthday and they all ended up the same ending. And I want to know if those blue spheres change anything as well.

Adam surely would like to know these things too :D
bodo_parkour | Posted 7/22/2007 5:03:04 PM | message detail
Wow. For me, the pages load, but they are all written in some strange text my computer doesn't recognise.
llamaman2 | Posted 7/22/2007 8:06:11 PM | message detail
It's in japanese. I can't get anything about a secret ending out of it, but google translation isn't exactly the most help.

That's not the problem. The contents doesn't load properly even through a third-party site like translator or proxy. It's an ISP issue of some sorts.
If somebody can spider the site and send me a zip with the html pages, I can go through it myself.

I won't be doing much else until I tick this off completely, but have started a mini-FAQ for Magical Tower (Sachen...d'oh) and already made it half-way up.
_Lagoona_ | Posted 7/25/2007 1:46:22 AM | message detail
.I guess I cannot help you there, sorry, it loads somehow strangely for me, too.

But if anyone's interested, 3D Block can now be scratched from the list. :-)

Now I need a new one to look into and slowly work on. Hmm, all RCM games are done... maybe Magic Block? *goes to check it out*

.Nobody is perfect , I'm nobody. :-Þ
odino | Posted 7/25/2007 2:32:22 AM | message detail
...and Magic CUBE too ;) If you are interested, check out The Great Wall.

There are a bunch of Sachen games left, and I just figured out how to play Locksmith. I might FAQ that after Magical Tower, as well as look into Worm Visitor - it's quite frustrating though.
chessjerk | Posted 7/25/2007 1:04:41 PM | message detail
Finally got around to submitting my Arkanoid II FAQ. Maybe I'll check out Klax next to see if this version is similar to the FAQ for a different system.

To PianoChampion90 (I don't know if he'll read this, but it's worth a try):

Are you writing for this project, or is it just by chance you're covering uncovered NES games? If you don't want to post here, feel free to shoot me an email at dbm11085@gmail.com. Thanks!

From what I've seen, they don't have a board account, so I'm assuming it's either someone else using a totally different name for contributions instead of their board name, or just dumb luck that they are nailing all these uncovered games for us. :)

Heh, you never know llama. When I first started FAQing that was what I was doing. I was covering a couple NES games without FAQs just trying to get more games covered myself. I got a few FAQs in before I came exploring to this board and found out there was an actual project for it.

You mean "Private Domain" who has been emailing me? ;)

I also didn't know about the project until I had written about the first incomplete game.

Does Jackpot actually exist? I can't find much info on it. Strange, as I once updated the data for it...

I was just saying, some of these games are so obscure, that just FAQing those and not ones with complete faq's would be lots of luck. I also thought I saw a post from that guy, but checking the last few topics proved me wrong.

And now that screenshots are being accepted on this site, it is encouraged to submit your own if playing through games for this project. I think it could work out quite well, as far as helping people pick games to FAQ in the future. :)

So there are three more HES games:

Mindblower Pak (Math Quiz, Jackpot, Arctic Adventure, Galactic Crusader)
Total Funpak (Pac man, Sidewinder, Duck Maze & Othello)
Funblaster Pak (Pipemania, Twin Eagle, Metal Fighter and Little Red Hood)

We could probably get it partly linked from existing guides (so nobody has to play though Little Red Hood again).
DarkstarRipclaw | Posted 8/2/2007 10:39:28 PM | message detail
Woah. I come in for my once-a-month stroll, and just five (maybe six by the time I finish this) minutes ago there's a post stating that you can crosslink Twin Eagle (which I wrote for). Go ahead with that, then. If the administrator needs me to submit and include a note to crosslink, just send me an email.

It's a lot simpler to submit an update and add a note with the game to link to. The automatic update often misses this, however, so it may take a few attempts.

I've tried to link other user's guide in the past but I don't think the admins like that. It got rejected.
