Just think though guys in 5-10 years some saps will be doing a DS completion project and have to FAQ 700 imagine and pet games! Don't worry if I do what I want to with the DS whenever you get around to the Completion project you'll have 100 less games to do than if I never existed otherwise --- Wish Upon a Darkstar |

Well, it seemed to me like you were the main proponent of the 'other projects' discussion given the information you were providing. But whatever, I'll drop it if you are. As a side note, I am still maintaining the site despite there being a bit of a calm period currently. Updates may take a little longer to get posted to my site from here on out (moving + no net at home tends to cause that >_>), but they will get there! --- Devin Morgan | CRP #3579 NES FAQ Completion Project: http://faqs.retronintendo.com |

On the topic of future FAQ projects, I've always been a proponent of reviving the GB/GBC project (which could very easily lead into a GBA project). The one huge problem with that is Japan only games. Many GB/GBC games were Japan only and released in small quantities on top of that. A great deal of these games will require emulation, many of which will be impossible to find. In fact, there is one game I've been working on an FAQ for for a while now. I know Mine will be the only one ever made for it as it took me damn near seven years just to find a slightly glitchy ROM. --- http://backloggery.com/jellysoup "Work is the best antidote to sorrow." - Sherlock Holmes |

Devin, maybe you should have kept your post. jelly soup, Devin has made it clear (until he deleted the posts) that he does NOT want any talk of any other Completion Project in this topic. If we want to talk about another Completion Project, make another topic to discuss it. Back to the NES completion project (sorry about the slight divert, Devin) I am still having trouble on the part of the game I have reached, so I may finish the guide to that point and upload it to have a more useful guide on this site. There should not be much to do, so it would not be a major update. --- Allow GameFAQ users to Track Guides by signing this petition - www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=7&topic=44545278 |

Anyhow... I wish I had more time these days to contribute more to this project. I'm particularly proud of my huge activity spurt for the first half of the year, but that has died down for the time being. Pluvius | Posted 10/8/2009 6:26:01 PM | message detail |
I blame the fact that there are too few games. We really are getting to the point where it's impractical to do FAQs for the remaining games because they're either incomprehensible to most Americans or they're the Miracle Piano Teaching System. Everyone who's worked on this project should be proud for getting down this far, but it's going to get exponentially harder to write FAQs for the project from here on out. Fortunately, NES translation is still fairly popular among at least a few hackers, but this project is probably going to outpace them. I guess that's why people are easily getting sidetracked by talking about other possible completion projects. Rob |

Pluvius is right. I was getting close to beating all the NES US released games at one point, then I hit the Koei roadblock. I'll get them all eventually, but the fun games have all been beaten and the remaining ones will require some serious work. Keep in mind, this project is tied in with my own personal project of beating all these games, as Miracle Piano is one of the 11... --- American NES games left to beat: 11 Last 3 NES games beaten: Wario's Woods, Overlord and F-117A Stealth Fighter [Updated 5/24/07] |

You are basically saying we should stop when all the US games are done? I think the core group can all work one something Japanese, it just takes longer. It means there won't be any newbies coming in to help with Color A Dinosaur. Lagoona just sent me some translations to do, oh my, you really don't need anything but the vital menus right? :) I thought this was a platformer... |
_Lagoona_ | Posted 10/12/2009 3:07:02 AM | message detail |
.Yeah, odino. The vital thing, imo, are the hotel and shop menus. I'd also like to understand the first few (non-story) screens. I have no idea how the password thing (i guess that's what it is) works and what the number does I have to put in. For the story blurbs, I could possibly also ask one of our Japanese guests here at the institute, so don't do too much yet. (Somehow, the idea only just crossed my mind...) --- .Nobody is perfect, I'm nobody. :-p *Blob* |

Pretty impressive that there's a FAQ for Takeshi's Challenge now. It's not even close to complete (he even uses a different route from what I've seen to beat the game, which should tell you how much stuff there is to do in it) but the fact that someone would go through the trouble of writing a coherent walkthrough for that horrendous game is worthy of praise. ReyVGM is a machine. I'm surprised he hasn't done more guides. He has a passion for game endings and between all the Famicom, FDS and NES games he has beaten, not to mention games for other systems, he has more than likely seen more game endings than I have. Thanks guys, but all credit really goes to Procyon at StrategyWiki. He knows Japanese and he has done a lot of great NES guides for Japanese games. Be it because he actually learned how to beat the games himself or because he saw a Japanese guide and made his own (just like I made my own guide off his), I wouldn't know. But if it wasn't for him, I would have never even beat the game. Note: I did not steal his guide. I played and beat the game thanks to his walkthrough and then I wrote my own from my experiences with it. The guys from romhacking are looking to start a translation project for the game. So maybe once the game is in English, someone will make a more complete FAQ. The game doesn't really have much to do either. There are just 3 city roads with 5 or 8 buildings each. Then you fly to the pacific which is only one road with 6 buildings and the finally the last island, which has a lot of huts but you get stuck if you enter the wrong one. The steps provided on my FAQ are what you need to do to beat the game. If you miss any of them, your plane explodes or you get stuck and have to restart. So, the really hard part of the game is figuring out what steps to take and hopefully not hang the game. |
odino | Posted 10/15/2009 9:50:50 PM | message detail |
Yeah it's a good guide for beating the game. I think it's not possible for everyone to know 100% of a game unless people help to contribute stuff they know as well. And the best part is you mentioning those myths. I mentioned this on romhacking once as well. I wonder how these myths got started. |
Pluvius | Posted 10/16/2009 12:47:04 AM | message detail |
The twenty-thousand-hit boss one got started because you can actually go straight to the ending if you punch 20000 times on the title screen. That's a cheat, though, and not a necessary part of the game. As for having to sing karaoke for an hour, that is a corruption of what you actually have to do after you sing karaoke, which is let the game sit at a blank blue screen for an hour in order to get a treasure map to appear. (You can also use an alternate method where you wait for between five and ten minutes and blow into the microphone on the Famicom's second controller.) Rob |
Devin Morgan | Posted 10/16/2009 8:32:32 AM | message detail |
Rey, you did a good job even if it is a simple start-to-end walkthrough. Personally I'd love to see a more fully complete guide for all of the optional stuff in the game (I'm sure that's when we'll see some outrageous things :P), but I guess we will have to wait for a translation first? --- Devin Morgan | CRP #3579 NES FAQ Completion Project: http://faqs.retronintendo.com |

I mentioned this on romhacking once as well. I wonder how these myths got started. Of course not. However, we can come pretty close given the devotion many of us have shown to writing quality FAQs over the years. Then again, some games really _are_ that simple and can be covered 100% without outside help. I can't see that really happening with JP-only games, sadly. From what I remember, there were/are some extremely helpful resources in the way of guides for many Japanese games. We just don't know about it since we're not in Japan. Finding such resources (many of them were in print and on par with Nintendo Power magazine's quality in the US/Canada - at least until after the N64 era) would prove difficult nowadays. :( --- Devin Morgan | CRP #3579 NES FAQ Completion Project: http://faqs.retronintendo.com |

I don't know, Devin. I recently found a site that had archives of quite a lot of Acorn Archimedes magazines, yet it is ard to find the games legally. True, but it's arguably easier when you're looking for English-language things (Acorn is from the UK, if I recall). Sort of like how you can plug away at Google until you find the exact search terms that will find you some obscure thing you need. Although, my best advice would be to search for game titles (written in Kana/Kanji), since that tends to yield some interesting and sometimes unexpected results. I've found text maps of certain obscure games (that are not covered yet either) that way. --- Devin Morgan | CRP #3579 NES FAQ Completion Project: http://faqs.retronintendo.com |
